Telinekatajan vuosijulkaisu 2016 - page 9

During its more than 80-year history, the Parliament House
has never undergone any comprehensive renovations, so the
current project involves renovations to both the building’s
interior and exterior. Telinekataja planned and erected a
weather protection system and the scaffolding required along
the building’s outer and inner walls.
The overhaul of a building this valuable, from both a
national and financial perspective, cannot be implemented in
the same manner as in normal renovation projects. “Different
parts of the Parliament House are protected to a varying
extent. Our personnel have become well-versed in the special
demands of the building,” explains
JARI LIITOMAA
, Area
Director at Telinekataja.
In March 2015, Telinekataja got involved in the renovation of the Finnish Parliament House. The project is intended
to be completed during 2017, in time for the Centennial session to celebrate Finland’s Independence.

Telinekataja’s design department has done excellent
work in co-operation with the customer. “The logistical
challenges demanded a meticulous plan, since the site is
located directly in the centre of a busy capital city. The job
of erecting scaffolding indoors also presented challenges for
us. Thorough planning and co-operation with the customer
enabled us to overcome these obstacles,” Liitomaa sums up.
New technical solutions were called into use to facilitate
the demands of the project. As additional backup, two layers
of sheeting were attached by KS rail to the tie beam of the
roof truss to protect the plenary chamber below. A double
cover over the exterior enabled us to double the heating
capacity.
